How does dyslexia affect people?

Around 10% of the population are dyslexic. Dyslexia has a mild impact on some people and much more on others. It affects men, women and children from all backgrounds.

Dyslexia affects everyone differently, but dyslexic people may experience problems in the following areas:

  • Memory and recall

  • Literacy and spelling

  • Numeracy

  • Time management

  • Organisation

  • Expressing themselves

  • Low self-esteem and lack of self-confidence
  • Dyslexic people often have considerable abilities that have not been acknowledged or developed, and are often:

  • Intuitive, with good interpersonal skills

  • Innovative and lateral thinkers

  • Resourceful, diligent and determined to succeed

  • Creative, with good spatial skills
